I watched the film ISLAND DREAMS way back December of 2013 when it was first shown as part of the Metro Manila Film Fest [MMFF] New Wave [Indie] Week before Christmas.
It is about an unaccredited tour guide [played by Louise delos Reyes] and a heartbroken tourist [Alexis Petitprez] forming a romantic bond as they explore the wilds of Philippine Islands.
I must admit, I saw nothing new about its story but its charm was its simplicity. The beach, the provincial sceneries and lovable characters helped too. I was actually hoping it can win the best picture of the festival. But best mainstream movie went to 10,000 HOURS and best new wave film to DUKIT. I have nothing negative to say about these winners because admittedly I wasn’t able to watched the said titles. ISLAND DREAMS won the New Wave’s Gender Sensitive Award.
That same day, December of 2013, I posted something on Facebook and described how fascinated I was watching it. Kenneth Au, its producer commented something as a warm response. Forward to earlier today, their official Facebook page informed me that the film is available to watch on Youtube for free. So I guess I have to relive now the moment and the enchantment.
The youtube version is with 480p video quality but it’s not bad. Thou if you want to experience a higher resolution, Amazon has an HD 1080p copy for a minimal fee.
